Vernon Wells was the star of my high school's football team.

(You probably already knew that, but mentioning the connection every time I see the Blue Jays logo makes me feel important and special.)

Nope, he was a senior the year that my big sis was a freshman. But she was in marching band, and my Mom went to all the football games (and took me with her to most of them).

Vernon was ridiculous. He was a one-man team. "And Vernon Wells with the touchdown!" "Vernon makes the kick!" "What a great pass by Vernon Wells!"

It was a name you'd never forget.
