That was a pathetic excuse for an attempt to play a game.

I know it's early and I shouldn't overreact, but that is as poorly as I have seen the Sox play in some time. David Wells' illustrious Sox career is off to a wonderful 0-2 start, and let's just face it.

THESE NEW GUYS STINK SO FAR

What I wouldn't give right now to see Pedro, Cabrera, Lowe, Scott Williamson, Curtis Leskanic, FUCK, ANYONE than the guys they have now.

Renteria .158 No homers, 2 RBIs
Wells 0-2 8.44 ERA
Clement 4 IP and a WHIP around 2 in his first start
Mantei 13.50 ERA
Halama 16.20 ERA

And who takes the cake? Blaine Neal. No one has even really HEARD of this guy, but SOMEHOW he makes the roster. I guess he used to play for the Marlins or something. Well, hes just off to an AWESOME start. 20.25 ERA, what a stud. Gives up a fucking grandslam to a career backup catcher today. Nice. The bottom line is the new faces aren't worth SHIT in these first few games. The bullpen is just plain awful outside of Embree, Foulke and Timlin.

Ortiz, nice homer. Trot, pretty good day. Everyone else? Pretty much horrible. Back to a lovely losing record.

I guess there's always tomorrow.

EDIT: Yee-haw the Celtics lost today too. I totally neglected the fact that they were playing at the same time...I'm so used to 4:00 starts for basketball. Blech. What a lousy sports day.

The way I see it, the Celts have 6 games left. They lead 2.5 in the division, we'll assume a Philly win (though it could go either way) over WAshington, so it's down to 2.

More or less guaranteed wins for the C's are Milwaukee, Toronto, and Cleveland. A guaranteed loss is Miami. Up in the air are the New Jersey/Philly games. So I guess it's more than likely a 44/45 win season.

Philly will lose to Miami, beat Milwaukee and Atlanta, and have the remaining games against Boston, New Jersey and Indiana up in the air. If they win those 5 games, it's a 44 win season. Philly owns the tiebreaker, winning all 3 vs. Boston this year.

So the math says Boston will have to beat Toronto, Milwaukee, Cleveland and New Jersey/Philly to win the division.

It can be done...

Ah, sports. How I love thee.

WOW. Those numbers are so bad, those pitchers should be on the Rangers. 2.0 WHIP is pretty sad, but I gotta admit, the 20.25 ERA certainly does take the cake.

Better luck to your boys in red.

(Speaking of, have you gone to see Fever Pitch yet?)

In Clement's defense, he WAS starting his first game as a Red Sock in Yankee Stadium and he didn't really blow the game totally wide open. If he comes out and wins tomorrow, my opinion of him will increase quite a bit. Tomorrow is probably the big gague, because...well if you lose 2 out of 3 to the BJ's...you're really just not that good of a team.

At first I was against seeing "Fever Pitch" but I figure I'll probably see it sometime this coming week once the hype has died down. It's about baseball so it's enough to entertain me. It couldn't be any worse than "Mr. 3000" (last baseball movie I saw).

That's like the Rangers...if they lose 2 of 3 to the Mariners, I think I'm just going to go in seclusion. Ya know, I'll go all Castaway, grow a beard and stuff.

By the way, I think I have you beat on the bad pitcher thing:

Nick Regilio. What a douche. He went back to AAA this morning (thank you, God).

And Mr. 3000 was quite possibly the worst movie EVER. They totally marketed it to be a stereotypical "baseball movie," but it couldn't have been any more different. I went by myself (cause Janna had seen it with her boyfriend and refused to go again), and I felt bad for the Dads who brought their little sons to see it. Ouch.
